K-9 Cairo was born in August 2013 and was purchased by the Galesburg Police Department and given to Officer Kyle Winbigler in April 2014. Officer Winbigler trained K-9 Cairo until he began the 10 week K-9 training at the Illinois State Police Academy in Springfield IL. K-9 Cairo graduated the Illinois State Police Academy on 10/31/2014. K-9 Cairo hit the streets running and immediately made his presence known in the Galesburg area. During K-9 Cairo’s career, he was responsible for hundreds of drug and weapon related arrests/apprehensions, multiple tracked suspects located and arrested, and located two murder weapons during his career. K-9 Cairo performed at dozens of community events and was always a hit among children. K-9 Cairo dedicated 6 years of service to the Galesburg Police Department and retired due to age and Officer Winbigler’s promotion to the Special Operations Division. K-9 Cairo enjoys his retirement living in the country with several acres to run and a pond to swim in.
