Chief and I graduated Illinois State Police canine school in May 2015 certified in patrol and narcotics detection. For 5 years we worked District 5, Joliet and District Chicago. During that time, K9 Chief assisted ISP, local and specialty units in the seizures of illegal narcotics, currency and firearms. His presence on scenes no doubt contributed to taking numerous suspects safely into custody. In 2019, I took the head trainer spot to assist in training new K9 teams. Chief continued to be an integral part of our success, as teams in training could see first hand how strong of a bond they could build with their K9 partner and ultimately lead to operational successes.
