Flek joined the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office in 2019. Prior to the Sheriff’s Office, Flek and his handler worked for the Mitchell Police Department. Flek, who was certified in Narcotics Detection and Patrol work, contributed to both the Sheriff’s Department and local drug task force’s drug seizures and arrests throughout his career. In addition, he was honored with multiple awards, including top placing awards in patrol and narcotics detection during national training seminars.
Flek and his handler held team certifications from the American Police Canine Association (APCA), International Policework Dog Association (IPWDA), and Dogs for Law Enforcement (DLE). As of January 2024, Flek was allowed to retire after his handler was promoted to Detective.
