My name is Kaitlin, I am the handler for K9 Kuno who worked for the Douglas County Illinois Sheriff’s Office. Kuno started at the Sheriff’s Office in 2016, he retired in 2022 due to vision complications. He has been living life to the fullest in his country condo ever since.

Today we found out Kuno has a growth on his hind end and it is suspected to be AGASACA, a cancerous tumor. Right now the plan is to remove the growth and send it off to be biopsied. The prognosis for AGASACA depends on factors such as the size and location of the tumor and the presence of metastasis. Kuno may need additional treatment like radiation or chemotherapy depending on the biopsy results. Although Kuno has aged physically he’s still full of energy and loves what life has to offer. He will be having surgery Friday, February 28th. I hope they can remove all of the growth and he’ll be back to frolicking with the butterflies this summer.

Update 2025: Kuno is doing well after his surgery, it has managed to reverse his aging a bit. He’s comfortable, happy, and playing like a young dog again. Thank you for everything you do for K9’s and their handlers!
