K-9 Lajka is Belgian Malinois, born August 1st, 2016 and was imported from Hungary. K-9 Lajka was then transferred to Shallow Creek Kennels in Pennsylvania, where he was then purchased by the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department in 2018. K-9 Lajka is a duel purpose patrol dog. He is trained in Obedience, Narcotics Detection, Article/Evidence Recovery, Area Search, Building Search, Reasonable Force, and Tracking.
K-9 Lajka is currently assigned to me (P/O David Carroll #653) Cook County Sheriff’s Police K-9 Unit. K-9 Lajka has assisted Federal Agencies (DEA, FBI, Homeland Security, and The US Marshals), Illinois State Police, as well as numerous Police Departments throughout the State of Illinois. To date K-9 Lajka has assisted in the seizure of over $4 Million of US Currency, hundreds pounds of illegal narcotics, located several dangerous suspects wanted for violent crimes, and located serval firearms used in the commission of a crime.
After a long honorable career, K-9 Lajka and myself will both be retiring in December 2025.
