Jake III is a retired explosives detection canine who proudly served the Amtrak Police Department with honor for 7-years from July 4, 2014 until March 8, 2021. Jake worked alongside his handler, Sgt. Robert Smith and provided protection and a reassuring presence to Amtrak customers, employees, and stakeholders. He loved his work. Although based at New York Penn Station in Manhattan, Jake’s assignments included duty in Washington DC, Philadelphia, and New England. He performed his assignments at special events such as the 2015 Papal visit to New York and Philadelphia and the 2017 Presidential Inauguration. He conducted searches for explosive materials in large crowds and onboard moving trains with ease. Jake was honorably retired in March 2021.
