Canine Maxwil #766 and handler Lieutenant Charlie Fourkiller #393 served together in partnership at the Kokomo Police Department from 2012 to 2019. Both were assigned to the department’s Drug Task Force working closely with undercover detectives. Maxwil, a dual-purpose patrol canine, was initially housed at Vohne Liche Kennels located in Denver, Indiana just prior to being chosen by his handler. Soon after, Lt. Fourkiller and Maxwil completed an extensive 6 week course at this facility in the summer of 2012 certifying them in narcotic detection, tracking, and apprehension.
During their tenure, Maxwil seized a significant number of narcotics and conducted multiple successful apprehensions. Along with that success, Lt. Fourkiller and Maxwil were featured on the cover of Heartland Magazine, highlighted in local media posts, and appeared on the Discovery Channel “Alpha Dogs” in association with Vohne Liche Kennels. Maxwil participated in various community functions such as demos, fundraisers, citizen police academy, and educational lectures.
In 2019, Lt. Fourkiller was promoted within the department and Maxwil officially retired. Maxwil was celebrated by the department and by local news stations for his service. Lt. Fourkiller was fortunate enough to keep Maxwil and bring him home for good. Maxwil has enjoyed his retirement over the last several years playing, relaxing, and eating well. It is without saying, that Maxwil is FAMILY along with being a big brother, protector, and friend to the Fourkiller household.
In late 2023, Maxwil developed a tumor on the top portion of his head and needed surgery. On February 5, Maxwil underwent surgery at a local hospital. He is at home and recovering.
