Canine Melanie-Code, Bloodhound, (AKA“MC”) also known as the Hammer because of her tenacious nature, started her career with Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department in August of 2019. “MC” was born February 25, 2019, in Florida. “MC” went to Canine preschool at 832 K-9’s Deputy Dogs to sharpen her skills and learn how to overcome puppy fears. In October 2019, “MC” was partner with Cook County Sheriff Police Officer Michael Juraszek and the journey had begun. At age of only one years old “MC” accomplished her first successful find locating a juvenile with autism who went missing in Plainfield, IL. earning title; “Bloodhound Uses Legendary Nose” to bring safely home endangered juvenile.

“MC” had done many trails, assisting Sheriff’s Police Department and other law enforcement agencies not only within Cook County but also outside, both non-criminal and criminal, which helped the investigation section to obtain crucial evidence about each case.

In December 2024, “MC” retired from the force after suffering injury on duty. Since than “MC” has been enjoying retirement life at home chasing squirrels, playing with tennis balls, sticks and in a free time protecting the residence.

Update 2025: MC has been enjoying retirement life at home, chasing squirrels, playing with tennis balls, sticks and of course getting her daily dose of adrenaline by barking at the mailman.
