K-9 Orry joined the Massachusetts State Police in 2018 after being imported from Slovakia, and was certified by MSP Training Staff in both Patrol and subsequently Narcotics Detection. Orry has served the citizens of Massachusetts with great distinction, credited with dozens of human finds, including missing/lost persons, persons in crisis, and apprehension of wanted criminals. Orry has also assisted in locating key evidentiary items (articles, weapons, etc.), and various narcotics in environments such as motor vehicles, residences, and other areas. Orry is a truly gifted tracking/trailing dog, and his love of “the hunt” has translated to his great successes, undoubtedly impacting the lives of many during his 6 years of service.
Orry was retired in April of 2024 at the age of 7 due to his handler being promoted to Sergeant, and subsequently transferred out of the department’s K-9 Section. Fortunately, Orry will remain with Sergeant Hanchett, and become a member of the Hanchett family. The Hanchett’s will provide Orry with a wonderful retirement, filled with plenty of love, attention, and play time. Orry is transitioning into retirement slowly, as he still wants to go to work everyday, but he will be well taken care of in this new chapter of his life! Thank you for all you have done, Orry, you made a difference.
Thank you for your service Orry and thank for welcoming him into your program.
