Rico is a French Malinois, who was born on January 30, 2012 in Poland. In 2013 Rico was purchased by F. M. K-9 and imported to the United States. Rico was then purchased by the Valparaiso Police Department in January 2014 and partnered with Lieutenant Jerame Simpson. Rico was trained in narcotic detection, tracking, and criminal apprehension. Rico served the Valparaiso community until his retirement on June 10, 2021.

During his time on patrol, Rico was involved in multiple narcotic and cash seizures. Rico was also part of the HIDTA-DHE initiative, which is where he sniffed out tens of thousands of dollars and multiple pounds of narcotics.

Rico will be enjoying his retirement with lots of playtime, walks, and dog treats.
