Retired K9 Six is a Dutch Shepherd who was born in France June 16th 2011 and began his career at the Marion Police Department in November 2013 with his handler Lt. Mark Elliott. Lt Six retried the summer of 2022.

On December 29th 2015 both Officer Elliott and K9 Six were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Six is a dual purpose Police K9 trained through Storm Dog Tactical in Sunbury, Ohio. He is trained in narcotics detection, criminal apprehension, evidence recovery, tracking, and patrol work. Six is part of a continued training program at Storm Dog Tactical with several other K-9 units from across the state of Ohio. When requested, he assists these units in their communities and those units have also assisted here in Marion. Six is a member of the Marion Police Department’s Special Response Team and has attended additional specialized training.

Six was purchased through donations made by the Marion Community. The two largest donations were made by the Brandy Winfield Memorial Poker Run and the American Legion Post 584. He was given the name Six to honor and thank both organizations. Brandy Winfield was a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy killed in the line of duty in 2004. His unit number was 5106. To have someone’s “six” is military term for having someone’s back so it was fitting to honor the American Legion with the name as well. The entire Marion community stepped up at a time when our department was in need of officers and brought Six here to watch his partners as well as all of the officer’s backs.

When he’s not at work or training, Six works to repay our community for bringing him here through public relations events such as demos at local events, schools, senior centers, etc. to educate the community on the uses, purposes and importance of police K-9s. He has made several requested appearances at law enforcement and K9 fundraising events and support events throughout Ohio and surrounding states to always back his blue line family. When he’s not busy with work and appearances, he lives at home with his partner and family.

He has made several friends across the globe with the help of social media and his very own Facebook page. You can friend him at Marion Six or follow him at K9 Six on Facebook to keep up on all he’s doing.
