I started K9 school in March of 2016. After a week we all went to Castle K9 in Pennsylvania to pick out our new K9 partners. After viewing about 10 dogs it came down to two A big fluffy black face loud shepard mal mixor a small brindal dutchy I picked the loud shepard mal mix because as i was walking back and forth to them i walked up to Vincent the (shepard mal mix ) he gently jumped up and gave a kiss. I knew i had to go with him. Then for the next 17 weeks we were transformed into a k9 patrol team. Then another 9 weeks training for our narcotics certification.

So between June 2016 to June 30th 2023 we enjoyed great success as a team. Many narcotics finds and several successful tracks for our jurisdictions and for surrounding towns as well. It was the hardest 7 years because I started late in my career but at the same time it was the best 7 years with Vincent by my side.

April of 2023 Vincent during a track jumped of a 7 foot wall in the dark with me in tow. When he landed he destroyed his right carpal joint ( right front wrist) tearing all the ligaments and cartilage. His carpal joint needed to be fused and screwed together limiting his mobility causing his retirement. Even though I brought him to work with me till my last shift.

Since our retirement i hand notice two lumps on Vincent. Turn out to be two different types of cancer. He under went surgery removing one large tumor off of his ribs and a smaller on in his arm pit. The tumor on his ribs was cancer of the blood vessels which is aggressive and the other was a non aggressive type cancer. My fellow k9 officers from my job-started a go fund me which was just enough to pay for the surgery and meds. As of right now he is cancer free but it is expected to come back.
