K9 Vito served the county of Berks in Pennsylvania as dual purpose, with narcotics and all patrol tactics. Born in June 2016 he entered law enforcement in Jan. 2018 teamed with his handler.
He and handler Chris Gorel were both members of the USMS Eastern Pa. Violent Fugitive Task Force. Handling bad guys and his presence kept many officers and many many missions in and out of Berks County, safer.
Vito loved to show off for children and crowds whether it was bite work, detection, or obedience. He and his handler won a few competitions as well, from patrol work to agility. Vito was always up for the challenge.
With a constant training regiment and work in the field assisting with bad guys, Vito began to show signs of wear and tear.
In August 2023 he received TPLO surgery on his right rear leg. A slow and difficult recovery followed but he was back in service by Feb 2024.
With a noticeable right front shoulder issue in April 2024 and spinal degeneration, his handler made the tough decision to let Vito retire. On October 28, 2024 K9 Vito retired as a K-9 Deputy and began his retirement.
Due to a prostate issue, he underwent surgery in Feb 2025 and continues to recover. His shoulder and leg have slowed him down physically but never his will to play and want to play hard.
He shares his home now with his handler and family and enjoys his chew toys, back yard time, and walks. He misses work and will always be a working dog in his mind.
