K9 Blitz was brought to the US from Czech Republic where he was purchased by the Waterbury CT Police Department in 2016. Blitz was partnered with handler Michael Silva. Together they completed an extensive 16 weeks of Patrol training through the CT State Police. On December 23, 2016 K9 Blitz became NESPAC certified in tracking, obedience, evidence recovery, criminal apprehension, building searches and crowd control. Shortly thereafter, Blitz and Silva attended additional training and became a narcotic detection team NAPWDA in March 2017. During Blitz’ career, he was utilized hundreds of times assisting Patrol, state and federal task forces.

In July of 2023 Silva was promoted and Blitz became a retired work dog at the age of 8. Blitz remained home with Silva and the rest of his family. Only one month into retirement, Blitz’ health spiraled down hill. Blitz was unable to walk and was rushed to an emergency hospital to seek assistance from a neurologists. After extensive testing and several days at the hospital, Blitz was diagnosed with a severe spinal infection. Blitz is currently on several medications and slowly showing signs of improvement. I hope Blitz continues to improve so he can enjoy the retirement he deserves.

Update: Although Blitz still tries to leave the front door with me whenever I leave, he is loving his best retirement life. Blitz is finally off numerous medications he was on while suffering a severe spinal infection. Blitz continues to be a part of our family and is loved by many.
