It is with regret to announce the passing of retired K9 Kilo. The Belgian Malinois-Dutch Shepherd was born on August 24, 2010 and became a member of the Quincy Police Department on August 4, 2011. Kilo was certified in drug detection, tracking individuals, area/building searches, evidence recovery, and criminal apprehension.

As a team, Mike and Kilo were in high demand to assist other local, state, and county agencies. Kilo had a successful career with many drug seizures. He was a favorite among local schools and organizations for his community demonstrations showing off his special training and extraordinary skills.

When he wasn’t working, Kilo lived with his family. His favorite places were running the fence with neighbors and most recently lounging on the couch. Kilo officially retired from duty in December 2019 and truly became a part of the family. He enjoyed being a family pet but continued the drive to want to work with his partner. Kilo was full of life and energy until recently falling ill. His handler lost his loyal partner, friend, family member, and beloved pet. Kilo passed in the comfort and care of his family on August 7, 2023.
