Tosca

Breed: Dutch Shepherd
DOB: 12/15/2006
Department: Federal Air Marshal Service
Function:  Explosive Detection
Years Worked: 4 1/2 years

Tosca’s work assignments included presidential and dignitary details across the United States supporting G-8, G-20 and United Nations events. In addition, Tosca has worked Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) details for the US Dept of Homeland Security regarding events and gatherings that are classified as National Special Security Events such as the World Series, Super Bowl, and NCAA championships.

After the retirement of K9 Tosca, she remained active and utilized for demonstrations throughout the United States. Due to her character, she was also utilized as a training instrument for numerous canines not only at the Canine Training Center on Lackland AFB, San Antonio, but for many departments K9 Teams throughout the country.

Tosca was not only one of the greatest detection canines I have ever seen, she transferred smoothly into the family environment. Unfortunately, she was rather deceiving regarding the breed. When the average person met her they immediately asked where they could find a Dutch or Mal. That’s when I had to inform that unfortunately, they probably wouldn’t get what they observed in Tosca. 🙂
